Citizens Receiving Social Assistance in Takhmao Commune Asked to Report Non-Payments

KANDAL: The Anti-Corruption Unit has encouraged members of the public with social equity cards living in Takhmao Commune of Takhmao City to immediately report if they have not yet received their due subsidies. This push came after police sent a Takhmao Commune Clerk to the unit for further investigation.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, 16 November, the Anti-Corruption Unit confirmed that 45-year-old Takhmao Commune Clerk, Sok Sopha, was sent by the Kandal Provincial Police to the unit regarding a non-payment of subsidies to poor and vulnerable families who received social equity cards for support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The clerk was taken in for questioning on Monday evening, 14 November, after the Ministry of Social Affairs detected irregularities in the payment of subsidies to poor and vulnerable citizens living in Takhmao Commune, amounting to more than 60 million riel.

The Royal Government Delegate in charge and Director General of the National Social Assistance Fund, Chhour Sopanna, has confirmed to EAC News that Takhmao Commune Clerk, Sok Sopha, was called in for questioning, but said that since the case is still under investigation, no further details can be released at this time.

He added that the arrest was made due to complaints received from residents, corroborated by irregularities in the cash transfer control system in the Takhmao Commune.
